Don Nicolson was born on August 10, 1921 in Birtle, Manitoba, Canada and grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving as a WWII fighter pilot in North Africa. It was there he met and married his wife of 53 years, Norma Stowe, on April 14, 1944.
