A. Donald Nicolson

August 10, 1921 — January 1, 2006

Don Nicolson was born on August 10, 1921 in Birtle, Manitoba, Canada and grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving as a WWII fighter pilot in North Africa. It was there he met and married his wife of 53 years, Norma Stowe, on April 14, 1944.
The couple returned to Winnipeg and Don supported his young family through various endeavors until he re-enlisted in 1952. He became a helicopter pilot and the family lived at a number of Canadian air bases until 1964.
In 1967, Don and Norma moved to Moorhead, Minnesota, where they later became U.S. citizens. He was an active member of AA until his death on January 1, 2006, at the age of 84. He was most grateful to his U.S. "family" at the Thursday night meetings and Denny's restaurant in Fargo.
Don is survived by a son, Jim, Turner Valley, Alberta; a daughter, Joanne (Bruce) Underwood, Calgary, Alberta; a sister, Betty Brown, Ottawa, Ontario; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
