Alaila Heggestad, the daughter of Andrew and Eldora (Steenerson) Heggestad, was born at Northwood, ND, on June 16, 1921. She grew up and received her education in Northwood.
As a young lady, Alaila came to Moorhead, MN, where she was united in marriage to Harold J. Upton on April 20, 1956. They made their home in Moorhead. Alaila worked for Warner and Company Insurance in Fargo, ND from 1953, until she retired in 1983. Her husband, Harold, died in 1984. After his death, Alaila continued to live in Moorhead.
Aliala Upton died on Friday, June 8, 2007, at her son's home in rural Audubon, MN, under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold, her parents, a sister, Geneva, and a brother, Julian.
Aliala was an avid bowler and bowled in local leagues for 47 years. She was inducted into the Fargo-Moorhead Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2004. She was also a big Minnesota Twins fan. Aliala crocheted baptismal shawls and prayer shawls for her church, and her family. She had a very special place in her heart for her cat, Tweety.
Alaila is survived by her son, Joe (Avalee) Upton, rural Audubon; daughter, Carol Lussier, Fargo; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
