Albert Liberto Barone, 85, Moorhead, MN, died on September 1, 2006, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead.
Albert was born on March 6, 1921, in Dilworth, MN, to Giovanni "John" and Carmela (D'Angelo) Barone. He graduated from Dilworth High School in 1938 and began working for the Northern Pacific (later the Burlington Northern) Railroad on a section crew. In 1941, he became a railroad machinist. He retired from the railroad in 1981. Albert served in the U.S. Army during World War II from August 27, 1942 to February 19, 1946.
Albert married Jeannette "Janie" McCormick on October 25, 1955, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Dilworth. They moved to Moorhead in 1958.
Albert was a lifelong sport enthusiast. He was an all sport athlete in high school. He played softball for several years in the Fargo-Moorhead area. He also was a high school football and basketball referee for many years.
Albert is survived by his wife, Jeannette; two children, James (Victoria Reinhardt), White Bear Lake, MN, and Angelique (Nick) Gunderson, Omaha, NE; five grandchildren, Michael, Erich, Greta, Ava and Thomas; and one brother, William (Marilyn) Barone, Moor

A visitation will be held on Monday from 5 - 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
The Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, September 5, 2006, at 2 PM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
