Albert Paul Vastag, age 90, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Hebron, ND, died on Thursday, March 11, 2004, at his home in Riverview Place, Fargo, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Born Herbert Marvin Maas, the third of seven children to John and Katherine Maas, on Feb. 28, 1914, in Hebron, ND. He was adopted by Mr. & Mrs. George Vastag in 1925, and grew up in the rural Hebron area.
Albert married Eleanore Hartmann on Oct. 8, 1940 in Richardton, ND. They made their initial home north of Richardton and later settled in Hebron. He married Barbara Badinger in 1983 in Hebron. Albert lived in Hebron until 1998, when he moved to Riverview Place in Fargo.
Albert was a talented craftsman and enjoyed making items for his children and grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and attending rodeos.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Eleonore and Barb; his parents; brothers, Art, Christ and Lloyd Maas, and sister, Sophia Maas.
Albert is survived by ten children, Harold (Bonnie) Vastag, Oneida, WI, Raymond (Flo) Vastag, Indianapolis, IN, Ruth (Gus) Sailer, Beulah, ND, Dorothy (Ken) Schneeweis, Hebron, Duane (Marlene) Vastag, Mandan, ND, Roger Vastag, Indianapolis, Darlene Murphy
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley, Riverview Place, or St. Anne's Catholic Church in Hebron, where Albert was a member.
A visitation will be held Friday, March 12th, from 4 PM to 7 PM in the chapel of Riverview Place in Fargo. A prayer service will be held there Friday at 7 PM.
In Hebron, a visitation will be held Sunday, 2 PM to 5 PM, with a prayer service at 3 PM, in St. Anne's Catholic Church. The funeral mass is Monday, March 15, 2003, at 10 Am, also in St Anne's.
Burial will follow at St. Anne's Catholic Cemetery, Hebron.
