Albin O. Haugen

Albin O. Haugen was born in McVille, ND to Ole and Marie (Knutson) Haugen on October 15, 1929. Albin was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at New Luther Valley Church, McVille. He graduated from Kloten (ND) High School and attended Augsburg College, Minneapolis, MN.
Albin served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955, and was a member of the American Legion. On May 31, 1958, Albin married Carol Berntson, at rural Adams, ND. He was Postmaster at Kloten from 1966 to 1975, and at McVille, from 1975 to November of 1994.
Albin was Secretary-Treasurer for the Nelson County Mutual Insurance Company for several years. He was President of the North Dakota Branch of the National League of Postmasters and Editor of the state paper, 'The Twig.'
Albin and Carol moved to Fargo, ND, in 1995. Albin was active in his church and community. He spent many years singing in the McVille Men's Quartet. Music and sports were a big part of his life, as well as his faith and family.
Albin died Monday, November 23, 2009, at MeritCare Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, at eighty years of age.
Albin is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Carol, of Fargo; four children, Cheryl (Allan) Knutson of Williston, ND, Dennis (Dawn) of Woodbury, MN, David (Martha) of Pelican Rapids, MN, and Grace (Dwight) Schultz of Sterling Heights, MI; thirteen gr
Albin was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Mildred Martinson, Thelma Johnson, and Mabel Koppang; brothers Helmer, Arnold, and Alfred.
Visitation for Albin will be Friday, November 27, 2009, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN.
His funeral will be Saturday, November 28, 2009, at 10:30 AM, in St. Paul's Free Lutheran Church, 2802 - 12th Street South, Fargo.

Burial will be in New Luther Valley Cemetery, McVille.
There will be a time of fellowship at the New Luther Valley Church, McVille Saturday at 4:00 PM.
