Alfred J. Rieniets

July 27, 1917 — February 9, 2014

Alfred John Rieniets was born at Fulda, MN, to Frederick and Ella (Behr) Rieniets, on July 27, 1917, the oldest of eleven children. Alfred spent his early years in North Dakota and joined the US Army on October 21, 1943. He served overseas during WWII.

Alfred married Vivian Ryder on September 26, 1946, at Detroit Lakes, MN. He worked as a mechanic for a time and then began his career as a mail carrier with the US Postal Service. After he retired, he managed the Moorhead VFW Club.

Vivian died March 27, 2000, and Alfred continued to reside in Moorhead. In later years, he moved to Pelican Rapids, MN, to be closer to his family. Alfred died Sunday, February 9, 2014, at Pelican Valley Health Center, Pelican Rapids, at ninety-six years of age.

Alfred was active in VFW Post 1223, volunteered for many organizations, and enjoyed traveling with his wife. He also spent time working on crafts.

Alfred is survived by his children, Cheryl Rieniets, Denise (Danny) Sumpter, and Keith Rieniets; four grandchildren, Nicole Mincin, Eli Rudenick, Zak Rudenick, and Ashley Knecht; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Eleanor, Mildred, Marge and Gloria.

In addition to his wife, Alfred was preceded in death by parents; numerous brothers and sisters; and a son, Allen.

Visitation will begin Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 1 PM, with a funeral at 2 PM, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
