Alice Marie Campbell (Miller) was born on January 7, 1930, to August and Emma (Gussiaas) Miller in Carrington, North Dakota. She was raised on a farm near Carrington getting her first lessons in homemaking as the second oldest of her nine brothers and sisters. As a child of the depression era she was strong, frugal and made a home filled with love for her three children and seven grandchildren. She taught them to always set an extra plate at the table for visitors that might happen along to enjoy her home cooked chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes and gravy or her famous bread pudding with vanilla sauce. Her only pleasure greater than baking and cooking was sharing her feasts with family and her many friends. She loved people and loved to live fully and laugh often.
Alice retired from Herberger's Department store after 17 years in retail services where she applied her interior design skills in the home department. Before moving to Eventide she made her home in Fargo, North Dakota, where she enjoyed entertaining and fellowship with her Bible Study Group, Birthday Club and others with her fine food and quick wit.
She maintained her quick wit and beautiful smile to the end. She died peacefully at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead, MN. In her final hour she smiled with loved ones and asked, with her smile, that her love for family and friends be remembered. She was surrounded at death by the love of family and was held peacefully in God's arms.
Alice is survived by two daughters and a son; Jinnelle (Bill) Weis, Delano, MN, Terri (Tom) Mueller, Mandan, ND, and Craig (Deb) Campbell, Fargo. She considered herself blessed with seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, Merlin Miller and Wes (Patricia) Miller of Carrington, ND, and James (Bonnie) Miller, Bismarck, ND; four sisters, Shirley Kivley, McHenry IL, Gladys (John) Kautzman, West Fargo, ND, Dianne Marsh, St. Croix Falls, WI, and Dr. Joyce Miller, London, United Kingdom; along with many nieces and nephews.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents, August and Emma Miller; her brother, Wayne Miller; and her sister, Betty Shannon.
