Alice M. Rolland, age 91, of Moorhead, MN, died at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead on Sunday, April 30, 2006.
Alice May Ernst, the daughter of Samuel and Keziah (Baker) Ernst was born in Gloucester, MA, on June 18, 1914. She grew up and received her education in Massachusetts, graduating from both high school in Gloucester and teachers college in Salem.
On March 15, 1945, Alice was united in marriage to Richard I. Rolland. They made their home in Moorhead, where Alice was a substitute school teacher. From the mid-1950s to the mid-1970s, she worked as a manager in the circulation department of the Forum newspaper. After her retirement, she was an active community volunteer, especially with the Salvation Army.
Her husband, Richard, died on December 2, 1986. After his death, Alice continued to live in their home at 219 3rd Street South in Moorhead. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard Jr., who died in November of 2004, and a number of brothers and sisters.
Alice is survived by a daughter, Lynn (Robert) Hovda of Loretto, Minnesota; and three grandchildren, Adam and Rachel Rolland, and Tyne Hovda.
Visitation: one hour prior to the funeral, on Monday.
