Allan Hovland

Allan George Hovland, 65, lifelong resident of Moorhead, MN lost his long battle with cancer Sunday, October 19, 2014 in Golden Living Center, Moorhead. His fight was valiant and he maintained a positive attitude to the end.
Al was born January 24, 1949, the only child of Josephine and George Hovland. He grew up in Moorhead, attending St. Francis de Sales Catholic Elementary School, North Junior High School and graduated as a proud Spud of Moorhead High School in 1967. He continued his education, graduating with a degree in Mass Communications with concentrations in journalism and advertising from Minnesota State University Moorhead.
Al's professional career began as editor of the Seward County Independent newspaper in Seward, Nebraska. He shifted from journalism to advertising, at which he became recognized as one of the finest creative directors and copy writers in the area. He worked at KXJB-TV and at three ad agencies, eventually forming his own successful company. Words were his life and he served hundreds of clients in his career. He was passionate about writing and creating advertising.
Al and Gladys Myhre were married in 1977 and were fortunate enough to have two wonderful children, Alaina and Nick. Alaina and Ryan Woods have a daughter, Zoe, who was the apple of Al's eye. They live in Denver, CO. Nick lives in Mahtomedi, MN. Al loved his children deeply, was incredibly proud of them and was blessed to have spent quite a bit of time with them over the past year.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and George.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 2 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
