Allan R Johnson

Allan Richard Johnson, age 65, Moorhead, MN, passed away in Phoenix, AZ, at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital, February 3, 2015, after a short illness.

Allan was born on October 9, 1949 to Conrad and Katherine (Kost) Johnson in Moorhead, MN. He attended St. Francis de Sales and Moorhead High Schools. He also attended Moorhead Technical College studying welding. During his youth he worked at Rex Café, Emerson Standard, Schroeder Concrete, Kost Brothers, and eventually became superintendent at Midwest Excavating, which later became Aggregate Industries. He retired in 2010, after 39 years of service. Often as he drove through the Fargo Moorhead area he remarked how his crew and he had done the excavating at West Acres, The Radisson, the Fargo Dome, many schools, homes, and businesses in the area. During the floods, Al ran dozer to build the dikes, and later to construct permanent levies. After retiring, he fulfilled his retirement dream job of working at a golf course, by becoming Golf Course Superintendent at Ponderosa Golf Course, Glyndon, MN. Al enjoyed working with all of his crews and most recently the "boys" at Ponderosa.

Al was united in marriage to Myrna Williams on August 27, 1971 at St Francis de Sales, Moorhead. They had two children, Jody (Jody) Jackson, Hawley, MN and Julie (Pascal) Loyer, Chateaguay, QC. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at East Spirt Lake, Vergas, MN since 1982 where others and he planted 500 evergreen seedlings. Al had been able to vacation in Lake Havasu City, AZ last winter, and for 25 days this winter. Throughout the years, he enjoyed playing softball, bowling for Akin's Electric, volunteering at Camp Fire USA, shooting trap, hunting, golfing, snowmobiling, pontooning, remote control cars, and most recently acquired a Ranger to be able to go 4-wheeling since he couldn't snowmobile in Arizona.

He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, Hattie and Katie Jackson, Hawley, MN, brothers: Maynard (Eileen) Johnson, Vergas, MN; Don (Carol) Johnson, Martin (Janice) Johnson, Curtis (Gail) Johnson, all of Moorhead, MN, many nieces and nephews in the area and his brother in law, Lary (Kathy) Williams, Dubuque, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Gloria Froslie Williams, nephew Maynard (Chip) Johnson, Jr and niece Gwendolyn Johnson.

Visitation will be Monday, 5 PM until 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in St Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead. The funeral mass will be Tuesday, February 10, 2015,at 11 AM with visitation one hour earlier, also at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
