Allen W. Hanson

Allen Winston Hanson, 78, Harwood, ND, died Sunday, July 4, 2004, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND, surrounded by his family.
Allen was born April 9, 1926 in Plentywood, MT, to Alexander and Alma (Helland) Hanson. After graduating from Oakes (ND) High School in 1944, Allen enlisted in the Navy. He served our country from 1944-1946 at which time he was honorably discharged. During his service to his country, Allen earned the American Area Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon and The Philippine Liberation Medal. Upon return from military duty, Allen attended UND in Grand Forks, ND,from 1947-1949.
On September 15, 1951, Allen married the love of his life, Elaine Cecelia Gastonguay in Fargo, and they resided in Minot, ND. For the last thirty-eight years, they have made their home in Harwood. Allen was a very entrepreneurial individual and through his sales career, he developed a sales and distribution network for Hoky Carpet Sweeper. Allen retired in November 1986.
Allen was an active member of the Fargo Lions Club and was instrumental in developing Blind Bowling. In addition, he was a member of Olivet Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, VFW, Eagles, and the Golden K Kiwanis. Allen enriched those around him with his sense of humor and enjoyed family gatherings to share his military stories. His hobbies included playing cards and expressing himself through his artistic talents.
Allen is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Elaine, Harwood; three daughters, Monica (Joe) Spier, Roxanne (Mitch) Mastre, both of West Fargo, ND, and Sheryl Jackson, Fargo; one son, Marc (Valerie) of Fargo; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation: Tuesday, July 6, 2004, from 6 to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN, and one hour before the funeral at the church.
Funeral: Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at 2 PM in Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo.
