Alyce Sauer died Monday, April 5, 2010 in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN, at the age of 87.
Alyce Schmidt was born August 4, 1922, in Sabin, MN, to Henry and Emma Schmidt. She was one of five sisters and five brothers.
Alyce was raised on a farm south of Sabin until the early 1930's. Her family then moved to Downer for five years before returning to Sabin. Alyce attended country school then worked at the Green Gables until she married Clifford Sauer at the age of twenty-two on December 22, 1944.
She and Clifford lived and farmed east of Glyndon where they had three children, two sons and a daughter. The family moved to Los Angles, CA, in 1956. Alyce and her two sons moved to Moorhead in March, 1964. Her daughter was attending Moorhead State College at the time.
Upon moving to Moorhead, Alyce joined the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and began working at Concordia College in the food service department. Alyce worked at Concordia for many years until she had to leave due to back problems.
Alyce's hobbies included crocheting and knitting. She also loved her two dachshunds, Mitzi and Freda.
Alyce is survived by two sons, Ted (Valli) Sauer, Plymouth, MN and Steve (Phyllis) Sauer, Fargo, ND; daughter, Janice (John) Rotella, Hawthorne, Calif.; a sister, Marian Steen, Moorhead; and a brother, Edwin (Maxine) Schmidt, Moorhead; four grandchildren, Theresa Rotella, John Rotella, Tara (James) Gualdoni, Ashley (Eric) Richardson; two great-grandchildren, Meagen Rotella-Shea and Cory Rotella; and one great-great-grandchild, Atticus Rotella; She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters.
