Melford Arthur Moen, 92, West Fargo, ND, loving dad, grandpa, and brother, passed peacefully in to the arms of his Lord and Savior on July 26, 2018.
Melford "Andy" Moen was born October 5, 1925, in Grand Forks, ND. He grew up on a farm in Whitman, ND. Andy served in the Army Air Corps and was a WWII Veteran. He worked and retired as a truck driver for Red Owl in Fargo, ND. Andy loved children and later enjoyed driving bus for Head Start. He was passionate about his community and volunteered in numerous organizations including Meals on Wheels, VFW and was in charge of the Color Guard for many years.
On March 11, 1960, Andy married Lorraine Carpenter. In the late 1970s they purchased a home and beautiful piece of land just outside of West Fargo. This land was a place of great joy for Andy and Lorraine. Andy enjoyed mowing on his John Deer tractor and growing a large elaborate garden. Winters were spent constructing a homemade snow fence, plowing and playing with the snowmobile. Andy and Lorraine were long time members of Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo, where Andy enjoyed participating in the choir.
Andy's interests included family, gardening (always a farmer at heart), sharing jokes, all things Norwegian (especially lutefisk!), playing cards, and baseball games, which were best enjoyed on the radio and preferably laying in the hammock.
Andy loved people and made friends wherever he went. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage and a hard worker. He was an incredible grandpa that found great joy in playing with his grandkids. When they rode down the slide, so did he. If a game of tag was going on he joined right in. Summers spent on Lake Middle Cormorant always included pontoon rides with Grandpa and our own Fourth of July boat parade with Grandpa as Captain. He was a treasure.
Surviving are his two sons, Chet (Kim) Rehder of West Fargo and Ron (Diane) Rehder of Moorhead; daughter-in-law, Holly Rehder of Watertown, SD; brother, Noel (Charlotte) Moen of Grand Forks; sisters, Martha Wilson of Plymouth, MN, and Wallie Redal of Tacoma, WA; seven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Matlida Moen; wife. Lorraine Moen; and son, Gary Rehder.
The family would like to thank Bethany on University, Hospice of the Red River Valley, and VA Medical Foster Care. A special thanks to the Swanson family (Chris, Lisa and family) of Dilworth, MN.
