Andy Guttormson

Andy Guttormson died on December 4, 2013, in the Elim Rehab and Care Center, hospice suite, Fargo, ND, after a seven-week battle with pancreatic cancer.

(LeRoy) Andrew Guttormson was born on July 28, 1942, in Moorhead, MN, the youngest of three children born to Oscar and Ella (Huber) Guttormson. Andy was raised on the family farm east of Georgetown, MN, where he farmed his entire life, first with his dad and brother and then was co-owner of Guttormson Farms with his brother.

Andy married Marlys Anderson on June 28, 1969, at Kirkebo Lutheran Church in Perley, MN, where he was a lifelong member. Andy graduated from Northwest School of Agriculture in 1960 where he was co-captain of the football team and named Outstanding Athlete of the Year in his senior year.

Andy retired in 2009 from farming and was able to enjoy fishing at his place at the Lake of the Woods with the Perley bunch. He was best known for his huge garden, his homemade sausage and his homemade horseradish.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marlys; daughter, Jenny (Ken) Taylor, Casselton, ND, and their children, Christian and Morgan, daughter, Jill (Scott Amundson) Guttormson, Hendrum, MN, and his sons, Tyler and Mitchell, and his son, Eric Guttormson, Fargo. He is also survived by his brother, Gene, of Georgetown, and his daughters, Heather Guttormson, Fargo, and Heidi Thomas, Bemidji, MN; and his very special nephew, Tim Benson, Albertville, MN, and his children, Amanda and Andrew; many other nieces and nephews; his in-laws, Linda Magnuson and Alice Dosland, both Fargo, Gladys (Allan) Richards, Hastings, MN, Skip (Trecie) Anderson, Osage, MN, Carol (DuWayne) Lydeen, WA and AZ, Irene (Richard) Mathison, Jacksonville, FL, Darlene (Tommy) Todd, Hendrum, Earl (Deb) Magnuson, Lake Park, MN, and Phyllis Guttormson, Moorhead; his aunts, Esther Bauer, Violet Reede, Bernese Levi, Phyllis Halbert, and Viola Huber; and his best friend, Sam.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sharon Benson; in-laws, Joe and Ethel Anderson, Larry and Diann (Anderson) Renshaw, and Thormon Dosland; three nieces, Rhonda Magnuson, Pam Renshaw, and Heidi Helland; and his two best friends, Pedo Ziegler and Claytie Richards.

Visitation for Andy will be Monday, December 9, 2013, from 4 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. A funeral service will be Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at 2 PM, in Kirkebo Lutheran Church, Perley. Burial will be in Kirkebo Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Kirkebo Lutheran Church.
