Anita Catherina Elise Timmerman Gohl was born in Seitwende, Germany on April 26, 1921, and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at her home in Moorhead, MN.
Anita came to the United States in September of 1923 with her parents, William and Emma (Freudenthal) Timmerman. They resided in Arthur, ND, until she was twelve years old, when the family moved to Aberdeen, SD. Anita was confirmed there in Zion Lutheran Church at age thirteen.
She graduated from Central High School in Aberdeen in 1939, and completed a two year kindergarten-primary course from NSTC (now Northern State University) in Aberdeen. During this time, Anita taught Sunday school at Zion Lutheran Church, sang in the choir, and directed Christmas music candlelight services. She then taught two years in a rural school near Revillo, SD, three years in primary grades in Wetonka, SD, and five years in the first and second grades of the Henry Neill School in Aberdeen. She was a member of the Association of Childhood Education.
Anita was married to William Gohl on July 16, 1950, and they made their home in Wahpeton, ND, while her husband attended NDSSS. They moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1951. Later, Anita taught in Wolverton, MN, and for the Moorhead Public Schools as a substitute and Title 1 teacher until her retirement in 1985.
She received a Bachelor of Education degree from Moorhead State College in 1971, and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa. Anita served the Lord by teaching Sunday school at Peace Lutheran Church in Fargo, serving as secretary of Peace Lutheran Church Women, and historian/secretary/treasurer for the Archives Committee. She was an original member of the Rebecca Circle (Moorhead group) and a member of the Sarah Circle.
Since 2004, Anita lived at Linden Tree Circle Assisted Living, a branch of Eventide Lutheran Home in south Moorhead.
Anita is survived by her three children, Kathy (Duane) Hazer, Fargo, William (Roberta) Gohl, Divide, CO, and John (Mary) Gohl, Colorado Springs, CO; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her younger siblings, Leonard (Ardell) Timmerman, and Her
Visitation for Anita will be Sunday, December 7, 2008, from 5 - 8 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Her funeral will be Monday, December 8, 2008, at 1 PM, in Peace Lutheran Church, Fargo.
Burial will follow in Moorhead Memorial Gardens.
