Ann V. Sannes

November 14, 1912 — January 26, 2014

Ann V. Sannes, 101, Moorhead, MN, died on Sunday, January 26, 2014, in Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead. She passed to be with Jesus peacefully, and in comfort, having family close by and in the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and the wonderful Eventide support staff.

Ann Viola Herreid was born on November 14, 1912, to Oscar and Minnie (Freeman) Herreid, in Fargo, ND. She lived in Fargo with her parents a few blocks south of Island Park, next to her father's neighborhood grocery store. She attended Hawthorne Elementary, Agassiz Junior High, and graduated from Moorhead High School. Ann worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone until marrying M.C. "Spuds" Sannes in June of 1935. The family moved to Bismarck, ND, for two years and they lived in Minot, ND, from 1945-1956. She spent ten wonderful years there raising her family and doing the accounting for the family business, Sannes Distributing Company. Ann and her family moved back to Moorhead in 1956, where she worked for a short time at MSUM while her husband opened the North Side Off-Sale in Moorhead.

From 1945 until the present day, Ann's family has had a cottage on the north shore of Big Pelican Lake in Ottertail County, MN. "The Lake" and her family and friends were the center of her life. Ann and her family spent every summer at Pelican Lake, surrounded by many friends. Friends were a huge part of Ann's life. She maintained contact and visited with friends from her childhood throughout her life. Her bridge club, made up of childhood friends, met often for over 50 years. Ann was a charter-member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead, and a believer and follower of Jesus Christ, Son of God. Ann was devastated by the early death of her youngest daughter, Judy Monson, at age 38.

Ann especially enjoyed her later years, spending time in Hawaii with friends. She also travelled to Spain, Norway, Germany, Turkey, and other countries. She loved walking, and attributed her long life to walking, golfing, and staying very active. Ann moved to Eventide assisted living at 93, and then to Eventide Lutheran Home when she could no longer drive.

Ann is survived by two children, Gail (Gary) Cranston of Otter Tail Lake, MN, and Bruce (Huldy) Sannes of Frazee, MN; one son-in-law, Terry Monson of Hancock, MI; nine grandchildren, Catherine (Bartt) Cranston, Matt (Amy) Cranston, Amy (Dave) Cranston-Nathe, Joe (Sue) Cranston, Chris (Sarah) Sannes, Talitha (Jason) Sannes-Venhuizen, Davin (Jennifer) Sannes, Ander (Megan) Monson, and Ben (Katie) Monson; 20 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, "Spuds"; daughter, Judy; all her brothers, Wayne, Clyde, Grant, and Del; her sister, Eileen Anderson; and all of her dearly departed friends.
