Archie Nelson

Archie J. Nelson, 88, Moorhead, MN, died Monday, January 16, 2017, in Eventide Fargo, ND.

Archie was born to Melvin and Genevieve (Ferguson) Nelson on March 19, 1928, at Jenkins, MN, in his grandmother's home. He grew up on a small farm near Pequot Lakes, MN. He attended a one-room country school through eighth grade and then went on to high school in Pine River, MN, graduating in 1945.

After graduation he drove cream truck for the Leader Creamery and worked at the Nygren store in Leader, MN. In 1950 he entered the U.S. Army and served in Korea. In 1954 he moved to Fargo and went to Hanson's Mechanical Trade School.

On August 20, 1955, he married Shirley Gehweier in Pequot Lakes and they moved to Moorhead.
In 1955 he began working at International Harvester as a mechanic. In 1973 he started working at the Veterans Administration as the garage foreman, retiring in 1993.

Archie was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee for many years. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, repair work, dancing, and pool.

Archie is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Kurt (Mary Krage), and Randy (Maria) Nelson; and one granddaughter, Alix Krage.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Jean Olsson; a brother-in-law, Thorwald Olsson; and an infant twin brother, Melvin.

Visitation for Archie will be Thursday, January 19, 2017, from 10 to 11 AM at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Moorhead, followed by his funeral at 11 AM. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead.
