Ardell J. Black, 92, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Moorhead, MN, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024, in Bethany on University, Fargo, surrounded by her family.
Ardell was born at home on February 19, 1931, the daughter of Ted and Sarah (Garrett) Guenther, in Hawks Ness Township, near Sykeston, ND. Ardell attended grade school at Hebron Country School in rural ND and graduated from Carrington (ND) High School in 1949.
On February 12, 1950, Ardell was united in marriage to Lester Lavern Black in Carrington. They began their family life in Carrington and in 1968 moved to Moorhead, MN. Over the years Ardell worked at several places, including Edling Electric in Moorhead, NCR and Pioneer Mutual in Fargo. After retirement they spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona. Ardell and Lester shared a passion for Square Dancing for over 45 years. They journeyed all across the country attending State and National Square Dance Conventions and even participated in a Square Dancing cruise.
After Lester’s passing in 1998, Ardell continued to go to Arizona in the winters. While in Mesa, Ardell met John Eusanio who became a special friend to her. They embraced dancing together and embarked on numerous cruises. Eventually, Ardell chose to settle at One Oak Retirement Community before relocating to Eventide Assisted Living most recently.
Ardell found great delight playing games and cards with family as well as fellow residents at One Oak and Eventide. She enthusiastically participated in activities and enjoyed bingo, pinochle, Mexican Train and Rumikub.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sandy (Roger) Van Raden, Fargo, ND, Sheryl (Pete) Patnaude, Lake Park, MN, Gay (Terry) Newman, Moorhead, MN, JDee (Kelly) Leary, Daytona Beach, FL, and Pam (Randy) Quam, McLeod, ND; grandchildren, Sarah Van Raden, Troy (Diana) Van Raden, Pete (Yvonne) Patnaude Jr., Nicole (Adam) Berlin, Brent Newman, Dusty (Sarah) Newman, David (Erica) Muir, Jacinda Muir, Tess Sobocinski, Devin (Casey) Smith, Amanda (Ryan) Lyons, Brandon (Kay) Quam, and Carlyssa Quam (Ryan Peterson); special foster grandchildren: Tekisha and Shanazja; twenty-eight great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren with three more on the way,
Ardell was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Black; parents, Ted and Sarah Guenther; mother and father-in-law, Harry and Edna Black; baby brothers, Derald Lee and Leo Dean Guenther; sister, Sharon Depew; great-grandson, Tyler Patnaude.
A Visitation for Ardell will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 13, 2024, followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead. The burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
