Arlene L. Marshall, 88, of Dilworth, MN, died in Serenity Assisted Living, Dilworth, on Aug. 2, 2010, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Arlene Lillian Cota, the daughter of Henry and Margaret (Pollock) Cota, was born in Oriska, ND, on Sept. 10, 1921. The family moved to Verndale, MN, and later to Dilworth, where Arlene graduated from high school in about 1939. She graduated from Moorhead (MN) State Teacher's College and taught school for a few years.
Arlene worked for the War Department in Washington, DC, during WW II. On April 19, 1945, she married Robert P. Marshall, at Fort Bragg, NC. After Robert was discharged from the Army, the couple returned to Dilworth, where Arlene did substitute teaching in the Dilworth Public Schools.
She was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary, including serving as District 9 president. Arlene was a dedicated volunteer at the VA hospital. She loved music and used her musical talent, both singing in the church choir and as church organist, for a number of years. At home, she will be remembered as an avid flower gardener and as a great cook.
Her husband, Robert, died in 1993. After his death, Arlene continued to live in Dilworth, most recently as a resident of Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth.
Arlene is survived by her four children, Russell (Paula) Marshall, Red Wing, MN, Carol Marshall, Dilworth, Thomas (Sebrina) Marshall, San Diego, CA, and Michael (Kathy) Marshall, Fredericksburg, VA; and six grandchildren, Jamie, Molly, Andrew, Cody, Jake
