Arlin Soholt

Arlin Soholt, age 87, of Moorhead, MN, formerly of Mayville, ND, died Saturday, January 5, 2013, in Sanford Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.

Arlin Duane Soholt, the son of Edward and Agnes (Eng) Soholt, was born August 4, 1925, in the Mayville area, where he grew up and received his education. He attended the Mayville Public School System. He served in the Navy during the war from 1944-1946. During his service overseas he sent money home to his father and had him propose in his place to Mary Jane Lilleberg. With surprise and excitement she said yes but had to wait for a year until he arrived home to say yes to him personally. They waited an additional year to get married

Upon returning home, Arlin joined the Soholt Bakery business with his father and brother, Jerome. A year later on August 17, 1947, he married Mary Jane Lilleberg at her family farm just outside Mayville. He was in business until 1969, and became an employee of Mayville State University until his retirement in 1989. During this time he was a volunteer fireman at the Mayville Fire Department.

Arlin was baptized, confirmed and a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Brethren Church until 1990. During these years he served terms of Trustee, Elder and Chairman. In 1990 they retired and moved to Fargo and became members of Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church. While at Triumph he was part of the Prime Timers group. In 2008, Arlin and Mary Jane moved into the Independent Living Facility at Eventide Lutheran Home. In 2011, Arlin became a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home. Numerous staff at Eventide loved and cared for Arlin during these years in the Independent Living or Nursing Home.

Arlin was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Agnes Soholt, Mayville, ND; brothers, Jerome and Eleanor (Holt) Soholt, Mayville, ND, and Maynard and Ruby (Quist) Soholt, Buffalo, MN; and sister, Evelyn (Soholt) and Delno Olson.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane(Lilleberg) Soholt, Moorhead; brother, Alf and June (Strom) Soholt, Minneapolis; sons, Mark and Janet (Salvesen) Soholt, Cape Coral, FL, and Ray Soholt, St. Francis, MN; daughters, Ann (Soholt) and Brad Grosz, Dilworth, MN, and Mae (Soholt) and Rick Rogness of Minot, ND; 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren.

Visitation: Tuesday, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral: Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at 11 AM, Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church, Moorhead.

Burial: Wednesday at 3 PM, Mayville Cemetery, Mayville.
