Armandina Castanon

January 6, 1931 — June 27, 2007

Armandina Castanon died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at age seventy-six, under the care of Hospice, in San Antonio, TX, surrounded by her family.
Armandina Rodriquez Morales was born January 6, 1931, to Moises Morales and Petra Rodriquez, on the ranch of San Vicente, Guerrero, Coahuila, Mexico. She grew up on the ranch and attended school up to the ninth grade. Armandina was employed as a teacher's assistant in the school across from the ranch before becoming a legal permanent resident and coming to the United States.
Armandina married Pedro Castanon on October 12, 1958, in Moorhead, MN, and they made thier home on a farm south of Moorhead. She often said it was very hard for her to adjust here because of the weather, the language barrier and it was the first time she had been separated from her family for so many months. Armandina and Pedro were farm workers and worked for several farmers in the area. She also worked for American Crystal Sugar at the Sabin piler site for twenty years. Armandina had six children who were all born in Moorhead. She became a US citizen in 1992.
In 1985, a dialysis clinic opened in Eagle Pass, TX, where Pedro could get dialysis so she and Pedro decided they would only spend the summers here and the winters in Eagle Pass. Pedro passed away on June 24, 2000, and she did not return to live here in the summer.
Armandina is survived by her daughters, Martha Castanon, Amelia (Collin) Schroeder, Irene Castanon, and Margarita (Sean) Castanon; sons, David Castanon and Daniel (Elsa) Castanon; grandchildren, Juan Guerrero, Victor Guerrero, Danny Castanon, Emilio Castanon, Adrian Castanon, and Tali Schroeder; one great granddaughter, Elisena Guerrero; sisters, Consuelo (Julio) Garcia, Maria Castillo, and Guillermina Martinez; brothers, Ervey (Delia) Morales, and Alvaro (Ilda) Morales; also numerous nieces and nephews. Armandina was preceded in death by her parents, Moises and Petra; husband, Pedro; granddaughter, Sarah Lisa Guerrero; and three brothers, Rogelio, Moises and Jose.
Armandina touched many people in a special way and she will be greatly missed by those who knew her. Armandina's family gratefully acknowledges all the care and concern shown to Armandina and her family during this time.
Visitation for Armandina will be Monday, July 2, 2007, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Her funeral mass will be in the church Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at 2 PM.
