Arnold "Bud" Bueng

February 21, 1928 — June 22, 2018

Arnold D. "Bud" Bueng, 90, Moorhead, MN, went to his heavenly home Friday, June 22, 2018, at Eventide on 8th, in Moorhead.
Bud was born February 21, 1928, in Twin Valley, MN, to George and Anna (Olson) Bueng. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Church in Twin Valley. He left school in the 10th grade to move with his parents to Seattle, WA, to work in the shipyards during WWII. Later he moved back to Twin Valley with his parents. On October 28, 1950, Bud was united in marriage to Julia Bakken in Ulen, MN. Bud and Julia had three children; Junell (Jon), Cheryl (Rex) and Duan (Donna Roost).
In February 1951, Bud was drafted into the army and was honorably discharged February 1953. While in the service they lived in Port Townsend, WA, and Las Vegas, NV. Bud was involved in the atomic testing in the Nevada Desert. While in the service he earned high school credits and received his diploma from Twin Valley High School.
Bud was a carpenter by trade, eventually working for Great Plains Supply in Twin Valley and rose to manager of the lumber yard in Ada, MN, where he moved his family in 1965. He worked his way to district then regional manager for Great Plains. They enjoyed many summers at their trailer at Rainbow Resort on Little Bemidji Lake near Wauban, MN. He retired in 1986. He and Julia moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, and spent winters in Mesa, AZ, for 23 years. They moved to Dilworth, MN, in 2008 to be closer to medical professionals, and June of 2018 brought them to assisted living at Eventide. Bud was in the skilled nursing wing until his passing.
Bud enjoyed staying active with his trade. In his later years making foot stools which numbered in the 300s. He also enjoyed early morning breakfast with his friends, a good joke, and reminiscing with family and friends. He was proud and honored to be a member of the November 2017 Honor Flight to Washington, DC.
Bud is survived by his wife of 67 years; Julia; three children, Junell (Jon) Looker of Warren, MN, Cheryl (Rex) Hammarback of Detroit Lakes, and Duan (Donna Roost) Bueng of Ottertail, MN; four grandsons, Richard (Amy Tabatt) Looker, Joby (Tammy) Looker, Christian Bueng, and Cameron Bueng; two great-granddaughters, Josie Looker and Jenna Looker; two step-granddaughters, Ellen (Allen) Honek and Rachel (Kevin) Eider; one step-great-granddaughter; Stella Honek; one step-great-grandson, Henrik Honek; three brothers, Dennis (Francis), Harlan (Sylvia), and Bruce (Geraldine); two sisters, Marlys Voss and Clarissa "Dolly" (Terry) Meyer; sisters-in-law, Barbara Bueng, Solveig Berg, and Irene Bakken; and many nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna; four brothers, Parnell, George Jr., Garfield, and Curtis; a sister, Clarice; brothers-in-law, Robert Voss, Gerhard Berg, Leonard Anderson, and Joseph Bakken; sisters-in-law, Lily Bueng and Hazel Anderson.
Visitation for Bud will be Wednesday, July 11, 2018, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
A Memorial Service will be Thursday, July 12, 2018, at 11 AM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel.
