Arnold M. Aune, 93, Moorhead, MN, died peacefully with his family at his side on February 5, 2011, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.
Arnold Melvin Aune was born to Carl and Jennie (Nelson) Aune on July 16, 1917, on the family farm in Spring Prairie Township, near Hawley, MN. The oldest of five children, Arnold was delivered by his 'Auntie' Sophie Sauer. Arnold was baptized on September 9, 1917, at Lysne Lutheran Church in rural Hawley and confirmed on October 4, 1931, at Hawley Lutheran Church. Arnold attended District 93 rural school. In 1941, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Long Beach, CA, at Camp Haan.
On November 7, 1942, Arnold married Venda Riedberger in Pewaukee, WI. Later, they moved to the Moorhead area where Arnold worked for Gambles, Cass Clay Creamery, and Ed Phillips and Sons for 24 years.
Faith was foremost in Arnold's life. It was evident in his gentle nature, his relationships, the values and legacy he left his children and his diligent prayer life. He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead, where he served as an offering counter for twenty-one years.
Arnold loved spending time at their lake cabin on Buffalo Lake with his wife, children and grandchildren. Arnold enjoyed fishing, Sunday drives, picnics, and music; singing and playing the piano, organ and guitar. He loved family gatherings and especially conversations with his siblings and cousins. Arnold knew the importance of higher education and instilled this desire in his children.
Arnold is lovingly survived by his wife, Venda, of sixty-eight years; four children, Jane (Ron) Bedard, Dennis (Paula) Aune, Sandy (Mark) Asleson, all of Moorhead, MN, and Denise (Richard) Risbrudt, Fergus Falls, MN; a son-in-law, Harry Kringler, Bozeman,
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Yvonne Kringler; a sister, Jean Christoffer; and a brother, Casper Aune.
Visitation: Wednesday from 5 - 7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral: Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 11 AM, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Burial: Hawley Cemetery, Hawley.
