Arthur "Art" Berger, 91, Fargo, ND, died Saturday, September 19, 2009, in MeritCare Palliative Care Unit, Fargo.
Arthur Edward Berger was born April 2, 1918, in Yankton, SD, to Peter and Dora (Schaffer) Berger. He was raised and received his education in Underwood, MN. Art served in the Army Air Forces as an airplane mechanic during WWII from 1942 to 1946.
On February 14, 1959, Art married Seline Nelson in Fargo and they made their home in Anoka, MN, but eventually returned to Fargo. Art worked as a mechanic and machinist throughout his life for several different companies including the John Deere dealership in Fergus Falls, MN, Grossman Chevrolet in Minneapolis, MN, and Hall GMC in Fargo. In retirement, Art continued to work on antique cars and machinery and would frequently volunteer at the Rollag Steam Threshers Reunion. He also had a passion for fishing and hunting.
He is survived by John (Jean) Rodenkirck, Helen Shirley, Julie (James) Frisk, E. Kent Shirley (Virginia Carter), all of Fargo, Craig (Carol) Shirley, of Shoreview, MN; five great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Seline, who died in 1988; and his mother and father.
Visitation: Thursday from 10 - 11 AM in First Lutheran Church, Fargo.
Funeral: Thursday, September 24, 2009, at 11 AM in First Lutheran Church.
Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
