Arthur F. Conyers

Arthur F. Conyers, 99, was born on October 19, 1912 to Milton and Eva 'Leta' Conyers in Valley Junction (now West Des Moines), IA. Arthur graduated from Valley High School and attended business school. He started working for the Iowa Power and Light Company. During this time he met his future wife, Virginia, at a DeMolay dance. They were married in Woodward, Iowa in November of 1939.

Arthur enlisted in the service in 1942, and served with the 560th Signal Corp Depot Company as a radar repair technician and supply NCO in Finchaven, New Guinea. He returned to the States and was honorably discharged in April 1946.

Arthur returned to Iowa Power and Light then worked for the fledgling Ruan Truck Lines as their chief clerk. In 1948 he started his twenty-nine years with Great Lakes Pipeline Company (later Williams Brothers and now Magellan) as clerk, chief clerk and assistant terminal superintendent.

Arthur and Virginia's retirement years were spent traveling throughout the United States visiting family and their many friends. They wintered many years in the Mesa, AZ, area. Arthur was an avid fisherman and cribbage player. He was a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge and held a Legion of Honor Degree in DeMolay. He served on the Board of the Fargo Senior Commission, was a member of the Golden Kiwanis and ushered many years at the NDSU Bison basketball and football games.

In the presence of his family, Arthur died Thursday, September 13, 2012, in Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead, at ninety-nine years of age.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia; siblings, Nancy, James, Ethel, Jack and Dorothy.

Arthur is survived by his brother, Keith (Shirley), Raymore, MO; his nephew, John (JoAnne) Conyers, West Des Moines; his three sons, Robert (Becky) Conyers, Douglas (Donna) Conyers and Landon (Renae) Conyers, all of Fargo; grandchildren, Lisa (Eric) Stevens-Anderson, Mesa, AZ, Alison (Jeremy) Wolf, Fargo, James (Jennifer) Conyers, Ft. Meade, MD, Thomas Conyers, St. Cloud, MN, Nathan (Renee) Rice, Maple Grove, MN, and Peter (Mindy) Rice, Rochester, MN; and eleven great grandchildren.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the management and staff of Eventide Linden Tree Circle and Nursing Home on Eighth in Moorhead for the exceptional care Arthur and Virginia received while there.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials in Art's memory.

Visitation will be Monday, September 17, 2012, from 1 - 2 PM, in Bottolfson Chapel, Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead.

A Memorial Service will be Monday at 2 PM, in Bottolfson Chapel.

Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
