Aurora Roen, 91, died peacefully at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND, on Sunday, July 13, 2008.
Aurora Andrina Ketura Anderson was born June 29, 1917, to David and Esther (Nelson) Anderson in Eagle Township near Christine, ND. She attended country grade school, Eagle #3, and graduated from 8th grade. She grew up on the farm where she was born and played ukulele in the Wolverton Free Church string band as a youth. When she was 15, she came to know the Lord personally at a revival meeting. In her twenties, she worked several housekeeping and nanny jobs in the Minneapolis area.
Her faith in God was reflected throughout her life. In 1944 she became a member of the Church of God in Wahpeton, ND. She attended Northwest Bible & Music Academy in Lemmon, SD 1945-1947 and attended Lee College in Cleveland, TN in 1951. She traveled extensively with the Church of God as an evangelist and musician in North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, and Wisconsin and held several interim Pastorates.
Aurora was Pastor 1947-1948 at the Harlowton, MT, Church of God and shared the pulpit in 1949-1951 at the Manhattan, MT, Church of God. While in Manhattan, she designed and helped build a one-bedroom log home parsonage.
On November 10, 1954, Aurora married Daniel Roen at the Wolverton, MN, Evangelical Free Church. They lived and farmed the Roen homestead west of Comstock, MN, together for 47 years. Dan passed away in 2002.
Aurora was a wonderful housewife and mother. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning, baking, and entertaining in her home. She continued to live out her faith as she hosted neighborhood Bible Studies and was faithful in daily prayer and Bible rea
Aurora is survived by three daughters, Rachel (Roger) Morgan, Andover, MN, Rebecca (Kevin) Kangas, Bemidji, MN, and Rhoda (Marty) Ueland, Cooperstown, ND; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Ryan (Mandi) Morgan and Cody and Tanner, Rhond
The family is grateful to Pioneer House residence staff in Fargo for their wonderful care since January 2007 and to Hospice of the Red River Valley for their support since March 2008.
