Barbara Oline (Brenna) Hilde, longtime resident of Felton, MN, passed peacefully on Monday, September 18, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was 85.
Barbara Brenna was born September 12, 1932, to Hilda (Syverson) and Morris Brenna on a rural Ulen, MN, farm. Barbara was the oldest of eight children. She graduated from Ulen High School in 1950.
Barbara was united in marriage to Kermit Hilde in 1957. Together, they raised five sons and two daughters on the family farm just south of Felton, where many Hilde family gatherings took place. Barbara moved into Felton following the death of her husband, Kermit, in 1993. This summer she entered Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen, and recently the Northern Lights Assisted Living Apartments, also in Ulen, where she enjoyed visiting with the employees, residents, and guests.
Not only was Barb a busy homemaker raising her children, she also worked at the Felton Café off and on for many years. After retiring from the café, she still could be found visiting with not only the locals, but all who entered. If she didn't know you when you came into the café, she certainly knew all about you when you left. Her welcoming hug and smile were well known throughout the community.
Barb was a sports enthusiast; whether she was cheering on her children with the Glyndon-Felton Buffaloes, or grandchildren with the DGF Rebels, Ulen-Hitterdal Spartans, or any local team that made the playoffs, she was always ready to go and ride with whomever she could find to the game. She was the first recipient of the DGF Rebel Booster of the Year award in 1995-1996, and was her grandkids #1 fan. When Barb wasn't at a local sporting event, she could be found watching the MN Twins, playing pinochle with friends, or out gardening.
Barb possessed a deep Christian faith and love for her family and friends; not only did she make sure all of her children and grandchildren felt special, but with all whom she visited. She touched many lives and created a legacy that will be passed on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit; son, James; her parents; and siblings, Betty Erickson, Gale Brenna, Marilyn Beven, Joyce Borchardt, and Mike Brenna.
Survivors include her children, William, Barry (Natalie), Charles (Shila), Monica (Terry) Matheson, Keith (Shelley), Jane (Brad) Bolin; daughter-in-law, Kathy Hilde; along with her greatest legacy, her 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Clair (Bonnie) Brenna, and Cheryl Brenna; brother-in-law, Roy Erickson; and a sister-in-law, Kari Myhre.
Visitation will be Friday, September 22, 2017, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Felton.
Her funeral will be Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Gloria Dei.
Burial will follow in Felton Cemetery.
