Beatrice M. Giere

Beatrice Muriel Johnson was born to Peter and Anna (Houglum) Johnson, on November 24, 1914, in Hitterdal, MN, where she was raised and graduated from high school. Beatrice and her family were active in Salem Lutheran Church, Hitterdal, where she often sang for Sunday services.

Beatrice married Maurice Giere on June 15, 1935, in Hawley Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN, where they made their home and raised their family. They eventually moved to Moorhead, MN, and Maurice died February 9, 1960. In 1963, Beatrice began working in the food service department at Concordia College. She retired after twenty years of service, in 1983.

She continued to make her home in Moorhead and lived the last nine years at Ecumen Evergreens, Moorhead. In the presence of her family, Beatrice died Saturday, September 13, 2014, at ninety-nine years of age, at Ecumen Evergreens.

Beatrice and Maurice were charter members of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead, and were active in its many activities. She placed Christ first in her home and was eager to share Jesus with others. She opened her home to many foreign students attending Concordia over the years. Beatrice loved music, reading, gardening, walking, cooking and get-togethers with family.

Beatrice is survived by her children, Shirley Tebrake, Cold Springs, MN, Janeal (Steve) Knox, Fargo, ND, Daniel (Nancy) Giere, Underwood, MN, LuAnn (David) Janssen, Moorhead, and Sherry (Monty) Mulvaney, Harwood, ND; son-in-law, Anton Whitehead, Moorhead; twenty grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Grace Clark, Moorhead.

In addition to her husband, Beatrice was preceded in death by a daughter, Celeste Whitehead; five sisters and two brothers.

Visitation for Beatrice will be Thursday, September 18, 2014, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Her funeral will be Friday, September 19, 2014, at 10:30 AM, in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead.

Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
