Bennie Haugen, the son of Peter and Annie (Bratlie) Haugen, was born on the family farm near Audubon, MN, on Nov. 1, 1920. He grew up and received his education in the Audubon area. He farmed there for a number of years.
On May 14, 1954, Bennie married Ruth Halgrimson. They lived on the family farm at rural Audubon. In 1960, they moved into Detroit Lakes, MN, to live. In about 1966, they moved to Washington state and later to California, where they lived until 1977, when they returned to Detroit Lakes. His declining eyesight, he was legally blind, forced him into early retirement.
On June 4, 1995, Bennie was united in marriage to Helen Sorenson Nyquist, at Dilworth, MN, where they made their home.
Bennie is survived by his wife, Helen, of Dilworth; five step-children, Syvert Halgrimson, Pueblo, CO, Eugene Halgrimson, Joshua Tree, CA, Roslie (Donald) Schroeder, Detroit Lakes, Diane (Bernard) Wateland, Moorhead, and Judy (Michael) Caldwell, St. Anthony, MN; 14 step-grandchildren; and 18 step-great-grandchildren.
Bennie Haugen, age 85, died Thursday, November 17, 2005, at Innovis Health in Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and two sisters.
