Bernice I. Novak

Bernice I. Novak, 89, of Fargo, ND, died peacefully on Thursday, December 17, 2020, in Dilworth, MN, at Serenity Memory Care under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Bernice Irene Mastrud was born August 4, 1931, the daughter of Christian and Hilda Mastrud, and was raised in Hatton, ND where she attended school. Bernice was united in marriage and had three children. They resided in East Grand Forks, MN, where she worked for Greenberg Farms for a number of years, before moving to Grafton, ND, in 1971. Bernice then moved to Jamestown, ND, in 1975, where she helped raise some of her grandchildren and before moving to Fargo in 1992.

Bernice enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing cards, bingo, dancing, talking on the telephone, and family get togethers.

She is survived by her children, Dennis (Deborah) Burthwick, Moorhead, MN, Diane (Gary) Johnson, West Fargo, ND, and Doreen Petersen, Jamestown, ND; ten grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren; sisters, Corrine Anderson, Great Falls, MT, Delores Smith, Corpus Christi, TX, and Shirley Hendrickson, Grand Forks, ND; brother, Ronald (Alice) Mastrud, Fargo, ND; and special friend, Rita Goodwill, West Fargo, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Myron and Alvin Mastrud; sister, Gardia (Mickey) Gierke; and granddaughter, Cherish Petersen.

A Gathering of Friends for Bernice will begin at 5:30 PM, Wednesday, December 23, 2020 followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 6:30 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Burial will take place in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Hatton, ND.

In accordance with CDC and local guidelines, social distancing and masks will be required for attendance. Bernice's Life Celebration Service will also be live-streamed and the links can be found on her obituary page on the Korsmo Funeral Service website.
