Bernice L. Knutson, 86, of Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, March 2, 2016, in Eventide on Eighth in Moorhead.
Bernice Lucille Standfield was born April 10, 1929, the daughter of Fred and Josie (Landon) Standfield, in Amenia, ND. She was raised there and attended school through the eighth grade. She then moved with her family to a farm near Arthur, ND, and in the late 1940s to Averill, MN.
On October 12, 1950, she was united in marriage to Alfred Knutson in Moorhead. They established their home in Moorhead where she worked in the potato fields and at the Woods Café. From 1961 to 1989, Bernice worked as a waitress and cook at the Moorhead VFW. Alfred died on June 1, 1991. She continued to make her home in Moorhead until moving to Eventide on Eighth in 2013.
Bernice was a life member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Moorhead. She enjoyed playing bingo, and was a huge sports fan, especially following the Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey Team, F-M Redhawks, Minnesota Twins and Vikings. One of her greatest joys was watching her grandchildren play sports throughout the years.
She is survived by her sons, Robert (Kathy) Knutson and Richard (Edi) Knutson, both of Moorhead; grandchildren, Sheri Knutson, Trent (Stacey) Knutson, Trisha Knutson and Lucy (Josh Larson) Knutson; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Bryce, Colby, Brittney, Brandon and Ben; brother, Byron (June) Standfield, Dilworth, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred; brother, William Standfield; and sisters, Florence Lako, Jean Steinbach, Dorothy Hill, Mae Ward and Harriet Standfield.
A very special thank you to the staff at Eventide on Eighth for their special care during the last three years.
A Visitation for Bernice will be Sunday from 3 PM until 5 PM, with a 5 PM Sharing of Memories in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN.
Her Funeral Service will be Monday, March 7, 2016, at 1 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel.
Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
