Bernice M. Hovland

Bernice M. Hovland, 87, Moorhead, MN, died Tuesday, March 29, 2022, in Halstad Living Center.

Bernice was born May 5, 1934. She grew up on a farm in the rural Clifford, North Dakota area. After receiving her high school diploma, she attended Mayville College where she obtained a temporary teaching certificate. She taught in a rural one room school house for a year. On June 26, 1955, Bernice was united in marriage to Purcell Hovland in Clifford, ND. The couple made their home in Oakport Township, near Moorhead, MN. Bernice was employed at NDSU for 25 years until her retirement.
Bernice was an active member of the American Legion and held a number of positions in the organization. She also was an active member in the local Teamsters Union. Bernice was known as a great cook and will be remembered for her incredible cookies and lefse.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra (Ronald) Boehm; son, Peder (Terri Kroening) Hovland; grandchildren, Landry Boehm, Chandler (Michael Lindemann) Boehm, Aaron Kempel, Ira Hovland, April Kritzberger, Heather Hovland, Andrew Hovland, Brady Kroening, Tiffany Romero; and great-grandchildren, Makaela Anderson, Skyler Hagg, Kayden, Jade and Ivory Hovland, Ryan Flechsing, Nadia and Elizabeth Kritzberger, Maverick Kroening, Bentley and Brantly Romero.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Purcell Hovland; and her mother, Bertha (Ostby) Hertwig.

Funeral service for Bernice will be Monday, April 18, 2022, at 1PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
