Bernice Norman

C. Bernice Hovelsrud was born June 1, 1927, to Julius and Annie (Hovelson) Hovelsrud in rural Hawley, MN where she grew up and received her education. On April 21, 1951, Bernice married Marvin Norman in Hawley, where they made their home. They later lived in Lake Park, MN, Dilworth, MN, Moorhead, MN, and Iowa before returning to Moorhead in 1975. Bernice worked for the Red Owl Stores in Hawley and Lake Park and as a kitchen aid at St. Ansgar Hospital, Moorhead, a nursing home in Iowa, and at St. John's Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Bernice enjoyed quilting at church, playing the organ, and camping at Golden Eagle Campground. She was also an active and faithful member of Dilworth Lutheran Church since 1964.

In January of 2007, she and Marvin moved to the Fairmont, Moorhead. In July of this year she became a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home where she died on Monday, September 3, 2007, at the age of eighty.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin; a daughter, Julie Norman, Fargo; a son, Wayne, St. Peter, MN; and three sisters, Alice Esbensen, Comstock, MN, Alpha Anderson, Hastings, MN, and Mae (Dean) Livingood, Detroit Lakes, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Melvin, Nilmar and Clifford; and an infant daughter.

The visitation will be on Thursday from 5 - 8 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
The funeral service will be on Friday, September 7, 2007, at 11 AM, in Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth.
The burial will be in Moorhead Memorial Gardens.
