Bessie Sorby

Bessie Sorby, 94, of Moorhead, MN, died Friday, March 7, 2014, in Eventide on 8th in Moorhead.

Bessie Rehn was born June 27, 1919, the daughter of John Albert and Clara (Kopperud) Rehn, on the family farm in rural Moorhead. She was raised in rural Moorhead and was baptized and confirmed at North Buffalo Lutheran Church.

On June 7, 1943, she was united in marriage to Elmer Sorby at North Buffalo Lutheran Church. They farmed for many years along with Elmer's brother, Walter. Bessie was a very devoted wife to Elmer who was truly the love of her life. In 1985, they retired from farming. Elmer died on March 14, 1992. She continued to live on the farm until moving to the Linden Tree Circle at Eventide on January 20, 2004' where she lived for nine and a half years. In the fall of 2013, she became a full-time resident at Eventide on 8th.

She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Moorhead and a member of their Ladies Aide.

Bessie enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting. She was a wonderful cook and baker with lefse being one of her specialties and her holiday meals were especially beautiful. She also took joy in gardening and was an animal lover. Bessie was also a wonderful caregiver, caring for Elmer's parents and many others over the years. She had great love for children and they could always put a smile on her face.

Bessie was a cherished aunt and over the years welcomed visits from her many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, Marion Schumacher, Donald (Sandra) Hausten, Richard Hausten, Cynthia (Richard) Drevlow, Patsy (John) Jacobson, Linda Lindberg, Lloyd (Trudy) Rehn, Brian (Kathy) Rehn, Laurie (Daniel) Wilson, Bonnie Sorby, Richard (Dayna) Sorby, Eunice Sorby, Sharon (Gordon) Sandland, Matthew (Judy) Sorby, David (Lucille) Sorby, Marilyn (Harold) Rolfsrud, Virginia (John) Anderson, Duane (Beverly) Sorby, Celia Anderson, Gloria (Gerald) Engen and Earl Sorby; great-nieces and nephews; and special friend, Beth Naasz.

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; brother, Lloyd Rehn; sister, Evelyn Hausten; and dear friend, Gladys Peacock.

Visitation: One hour prior to memorial service.

Memorial Service: Thursday, April 24, 2014, at 1:00 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
