Betty Jean Porter, 92, went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2021, in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.

She was born near Garfield, Arkansas, to Harry and Cleva (Williams) Douglas on November 21, 1928. Betty began her education in a one room schoolhouse, Coal Gap School, and graduated after just three years at Seligman High School, Missouri, in 1947, where she was class Valedictorian. Betty graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1950 with a degree in Home Economics, completing her coursework again in just three years.

She went on to teach at Spearman High School in Spearman, Texas, where she met her beloved husband Chalmers in April, 1954. They became engaged on just their second date, and were married two months later on June 25, enjoying the next 50 years together. (Betty did everything ahead of schedule!)

Betty was an avid bridge player and fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks, Vikings, Twins, and the Dallas Cowboys. She loved to read and travel the world with pilot-husband Chalmers, obtaining her own pilot's license in 1962 to make flying with him and her boys safer. She was an active member of her church throughout her life, most recently the Salem Evangelical Free Church in Fargo.

Betty's greatest joy in life was serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and in showering love on her large family which included her three sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Pam Porter (Indiana), William and Laura Porter (Fargo), and Raymond and Natalie Porter (Indiana).
Her beloved grandchildren and their spouses are Jennifer and Robbie Lukens (South Dakota), Stephanie and Brad DeJong (Illinois), Matthew and Anna Porter (Fargo), Isaiah Porter (Minnesota), and Joshua Porter (Atlanta). She also adored her five great grandchildren Evelynn, Eleanor, Elijah, Sylas, and John.

Betty was preceded in death by her dear husband, Chalmers and brother, Dean Douglas. She is survived by her sister, Glenda (and Bill) Hanna; her brother, Denver (and Susan) Douglas; and nephew, Darrell (and Cerelle) Douglas of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Visitation will be held at Salem Evangelical Free Church, Fargo, on Friday, November 5,2021, from 5-6 pm, followed by a prayer service at 6 pm. Funeral services will also be held at Salem Evangelical Free Church, Fargo, at 2 pm on Saturday, November 6, and will be live-streamed by Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, in Moorhead, MN.
