Betty Jane Stigen was born December 20, 1925, in Traill County, Caledonia, ND, to Richard and Pearl (Stanley) Stigen. Betty was raised in Caledonia where she graduated from high school.

Betty married Bill Nelson on June 16, 1944, at Ada, MN. Betty worked as an administrative assistant for several businesses but primarily for Blue Cross and Blue Shield. 

She was an active member of Hunter (ND) Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. Betty was a member of Royal Neighbors and was a gifted artist as a painter. 

Betty married James Johnson on February 20, 1999, at Moorhead, MN. They enjoyed over 15 years together with good times and trips. James preceded her in death on September 10, 2014.

Betty continued to make her home in Moorhead until entering Bethany on University, Fargo, in May of 2022. She died Monday, August 12, 2024, at Bethany on University, Fargo, at ninety-eight years of age.

Betty is survived by her children, Judy (Roger) Rustad, Horace, ND, Rick (Phyllis) Nelson, Hillsboro, ND, and Roger (Eva) Nelson, Minnetonka, MN; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Wright; and a brother, Daryll Stigen. 

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Reep; brothers, Dean, Zane, Bob, and Lloyd; and sisters, Shirley and Janice.

 A graveside service for Betty will be Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 11 AM, in Riverside Cemetery, Glyndon, MN.

 Memorials are preferred to the Riverside Cemetery Association.
