Beverly "Bev" Larsen

Beverly Larsen 1936-2022

Beverly Larsen of Moorhead, MN, passed away on July 31, 2022, at the age of 85. She died peacefully in Sanford Hospice House following a stroke. Bev was born October 13, 1936, in Moorhead to parents, Alvin and Ellen Larsen. She attended school in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Clay County (Dist. 22 West), St. Joseph’s School in Moorhead and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1954.

After attending business school, she worked at Fargo National Bank, and in 1960, she and two friends decided to move to California. She settled in Downey, CA, where she lived and worked for more than 40 years. She returned to Moorhead about fifteen years ago to be closer to family.

Bev was tremendously independent, had a sharp mind and a quick wit, and she loved to laugh. Her passion for lifelong learning spanned a wide variety of subjects ranging from genealogy to transcendental meditation to tai chi. Her family and friends fondly remember her passion for collecting elephants (trunks up are good luck!), vast knowledge of family history and unwavering reliability when it came to sending birthday cards and notes to family and friends.

Bev was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Harry Mattson; brother-in-law, Richard Tyler; and great-niece, Rachel Cartwright. She is survived by her sister, Mary Ellen (Mattson) Tyler of Prior Lake, MN; brothers, Kenneth (Frances) Mattson of Ogema, MN, and Cliff (Jane) Mattson of Oxbow, ND; and many nieces, nephews; cousins, and good friends.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 8, 2022, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers or remembrance gifts, please consider a charitable donation in her memory.
