Beverly J. Hubbard

January 29, 1927 — April 9, 2020

Beverly J. Hubbard, 93, of Fargo, ND, died on Thursday, April 9, 2020, in her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and in the arms of her daughter.

Beverly Joyce Olson was born January 29, 1927, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of first-generation Norwegians Odin L. and Jennie A. (Peterson) Olson. She grew up with her parents and three siblings in the glorious town of Glover, ND, surrounded by a large extended family. She attended a two-room schoolhouse through grade eight, and then boarded in Oakes, ND, to attend high school.

After graduation, she attended Jamestown (ND) College. While there, a classmate wondered about a tall, dark, handsome WWII veteran. Bev knew Raymond Hubbard from high school and suggested he date the friend. Instead, he asked Bev to attend the mixer with him, and they were married on August 29, 1948, in Oakes Presbyterian Church.

Bev graduated with a two-year teaching degree and taught in Carrington, ND, and at the Crippled Children's School in Jamestown, becoming life-long friends with Dr. Anne Carlson, for whom the school was later named. They also lived briefly in Ulen, MN, before settling in Fargo. Bev spent most of her adult years as a homemaker, but worked for ten years as a Metro Club hostess/travel escort at Metropolitan Federal Bank.

She was a long-time faithful member of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo. She taught Sunday and Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir, was an active Circle member, attended and taught numerous Bible study classes, served on boards and committees, was a card-maker, and founded the seniors group, PEP Club. She was a member of the rommegrot crew for many Oak Grove bazaars.

Bev was the consummate hostess, making everyone feel welcome and valued. She lived for faith, family, friends, and food. Her husband said that her hobby was cooking in the kitchen (if so, his hobby was eating). She enjoyed singing and playing the piano, biking, spending time at the lake swimming, boating, and relaxing in the hammock, and spoiling her grandchildren.

Grateful for having had her in their lives are her children, Julie Huebner and David Hubbard (Missy Nudell), both of Fargo; and grandchildren, David Huebner (Tracey Hibbard), Afton Hubbard, Justine Hubbard, Jennal Hubbard, Tess Hubbard, and Jaclyn Hubbard. She is also survived by a sister, Muriel Bursh; and a brother, Rev. Orville L. Olson.

She was preceded in death by Ray, her husband of nearly 70 years; her parents; sister, Joyce; brother, Bernard Olson; son-in-law, Thomas Huebner; and many adored extended family and friends.

A private service will be held and a Celebration of Beverly's Life will be held at a later date.
