Beverly M. Paulson

Beverly M. (Gerhardson) Paulson passed away peacefully with her husband, Lloyd, by her side, Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Beverly Gerhardson was born March 22, 1930, to Ruth "Elizabeth" and Helmer Otto Gerhardson in St. Paul, MN. She was the eldest of 10 children. Bev was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, MN, and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1948. She attended Interstate Business College in Fargo in 1950-1951.
She worked in the office of the Fergus Falls State Hospital and Western States Life Insurance Company in Fargo. She married the love of her life, Lloyd Paulson, of Parkers Prairie, MN, on September 2, 1951, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. They lived in Fargo, Wheaton, MN, and moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1962, where her husband worked for Scheels Hardware and Sport Shops.
Bev was very active in the community. She was a volunteer director of the Scandinavian Hjemkomst Festival for 18 years, a founding member of the Swedish Cultural Society and the Heritage Education Foundation at Minnesota State University Moorhead, where she served for 33 years. She was a founding member of the Dollars for Scholars Foundation in Moorhead, Fergus Falls, Parkers Prairie and other communities. She loved the outdoors, camping trips, gardening, bird watching and hiking. She was a supporter of The Nature Conservancy and other outdoor groups. She was a Campfire, Blue Bird, Cub Scout, and Boy Scout counselor; a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Friends of the Library, Study Club, League of Women Voters, and many other civic groups. She was a very active member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
Bev was chosen a YWCA Woman of the Year in 1994 in recognition of all of her leadership of the many community activities in which she was involved.
Genealogy was a special interest to her. She traced her family roots to Sweden and Norway and traveled there four times to locate family and the original location of her and Lloyd's families. She taught genealogy at the Heritage Education Commission works
Bev is survived by her husband Lloyd; two children, Bob, Rapid City, SD, and Corla "CoCo" Paulson, Moorhead; two grandchildren, Monica (Greg) Paulson Priebe, Bloomington, IN, and Mark Paulson, Bozeman, MT; brothers, Jim, Eric, and John (Marge); sister, Ka
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Helmer Gerhardson; brothers, Henry, Duffy, Gordon, and Phil; and sister, Linda.


Memorials may be given in honor of Beverly to the donor's choice.

Funeral Service: Monday, April 13, 2009, at 11 AM, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead.


Burial: Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead.
