BEVERLY MARY HODGSON RICK 

Bev died peacefully in her Fargo home on July 4, 2024, at eighty-four years of age. Bev was born on October 31, 1939, in Carson ND, to Philander and Elaine (Zenk) Hodgson. She attended a two-room elementary country school, Indian Hill, and graduated from high school in Williston, ND, in 1957. Bev attended Moorhead Teachers College, now Minnesota State University Moorhead. 

She grew up on a large dairy farm in McKenzie County, near Williston, from 1944 to 1957. Bev was her dad’s “right hand” in the garden, yard, dairy herd, and fields. She learned to respect the responsibility of work well done. 

She was united in marriage to David William Rick on March 30, 1959, in Breckenridge, MN. They had 55 ½ years of loving memories until his death on October 10, 2014. They moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1959. Bev was co-owner of numerous businesses with her husband David over the years. Rick Electric, Inc. was started in their home on May 6, 1964. David retired in 1998, and they sold the business to two of their sons, Gregory and Dennis. They also owned and operated Moorhead Honda Cycle, Mayfair Builders, Riverview Estates, F-M Hotel, Tree Top and Viking Oaks restaurants. 

Bev was an active member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church and school in Moorhead. She was the school secretary for seven years, member of the school board for six years, co-chair of the weekly bingo game for the school fundraiser, chaired the Fancy Booth for 26 years during the annual church bazaar, Welcome Lady for newcomers, and co-founder of the Cub Scout Pack #640. 

Bev’s other pride and joy occurred in 1980 when she helped organize the first Moorhead High School Booster Club. In 1986, Bev was the first woman to chair the Handicapable Celebrity Golf Tournament at Moorhead Country Club, which was sponsored by the Red River Human Service Foundation. She also volunteered to provide lessons for the junior golfers at the Moorhead Country Club. 

Bev served as beach captain for Dunvilla Beach on Lake Lizzie, golf officer at both Moorhead Country Club and Sunland Village in Mesa, AZ, where she golfed for 50 years. She enjoyed playing party and duplicate bridge and taught American and Siamese Mahjong. 

Bev’s real love was her soul mate, David, and their family; four children, twelve grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was noted for her frozen strawberry dessert and taught her grandchildren the recipe to carry on the culinary tradition. Another love was exploring new destinations of the world by plane, train, and automobile. 

Bev and David lived in Breckenridge, Moorhead, Ottertail Lake, Dunvilla, Fargo, Mesa and Gilbert AZ. 

Bev is survived by her four children, Gregory (Stacy), West Fargo, ND, Linda (Robert) King, Edina, MN, Steven, Madison, WI, and Dennis (Elise), Fargo; twelve grandchildren Brenna (Ben) Thompson, Caitlin (Taylor) Hannah, Delaney Rick, Allyson (Mike) Dardis, Korbyn (Scott) Schuchhardt, Broderick (Acacia) King, Roman Rick, Evangeline Rick, Madisen (Jacob) Doege, Westin Rick, Jaylen Rick, and Kelden Rick and nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Patricia (Richard Stork) Hodgson, Huddersfield, England, Michael (Alice) Hodgson, New Hope, MN, and Barbara Hodgson, Yorba Linda, CA; and numerous nephews and nieces. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, David, and her parents, Phil and Elaine Hodgson. 

Memorials are referred to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moorhead. 

Visitation for Bev will be Monday, July 22, 2024, from 5 – 7 PM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 11 AM, in the church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
