Billy Haugen

Billy Haugen, a lifelong resident of Moorhead, MN, passed away on May 14, 2024, at Sanford Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was 43 years old.

Born on August 5, 1980, at St. Ansgar Hospital in Moorhead, Billy was the cherished son of Tim and Karen (Olson) Haugen. His roots ran deep in the community, where he attended Our Saviors Lutheran Church for his baptism and Christ the King Lutheran Church for his confirmation. Billy proudly graduated from Moorhead High School in 1998, leaving behind a legacy as a dedicated Moorhead Spud. Throughout his school years, he had a passion for and participated in both baseball and wrestling.

Billy’s work life was diverse, but two roles stood out. He enjoyed bartending at the Moorhead VFW, but his true passion lay in working alongside his father at Valley Green & Associates. Prior to that, he managed at both Stop and Go and Jiffy Lube and worked several years at Sturdevant’s Auto parts.

Off the clock, Billy found joy on the softball field. He played for years, often sharing the diamond with his father and three brothers. Known for his spirited debates with umpires, Billy brought his competitive spirit to every game.

Beyond his accomplishments, Billy’s heart belonged to family. He leaves behind his parents, brothers Shane & Kim, Josh & Tara, and Jeremy & Abby. His nieces and nephews, Maddi, Jack, Noah, Libby, Lucas, Bronson, Gabe, Bauer, and Beckham held a special place in his heart; grandmother, Alice Hellen; Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins also mourn his passing.

Billy joins his grandparents, Allan Olson, Bob Koth, Clayton Haugen, and Carole Haugen and his niece Isabelle in eternal rest.

May his memory live on in the hearts of those who loved him. 

A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 5pm - 7pm with a 7pm Prayer Service  in The Lutheran Church of Christ The King, Moorhead, MN.  Billy's Celebration of Life will be Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 11am in The Lutheran Church of Christ The King.
