Borgny Kelsven, age 95, formerly of Dilworth, MN, recently
of Thorold, Ontario, Canada, died on Sunday, August 20th,
2006.
Born Borgny Ohme, on February 2, 1911, in Iowa, she grew
up and received her education in Colton, SD. In 1930 she
graduated from nurses training at St. Luke's Hospital,
School of Nursing, in Fargo, ND.
On July 25, 1931, Borgny and Roy M. Kelsven were married.
They made their home in Dilworth. Borgny worked as a nurse
in St. Luke's Hospital and St. Ansgar's Cardiac Clinic in
Fargo. Roy Kelsven died on December 15, 1968. After his
death and the death of her daughter, Adrienne Yvonne
Verde, in 1970, she moved to Ontario to care for her
daughter's family.
Borgny's faith was a comfort to her throughout her life.
She was a founding member of Dilworth Lutheran Church, and
an active participant in the congregation of Resurrection
Lutheran Church in St. Catharines, Ontario.
Family was important to her. She maintained correspondence
with her many descendants, always remembering birthdays
and anniversaries. Borgny's knowledge of family history
and Norwegian traditions were passed on, filtering down
through four generations. More than that, she passed on a
tradition of hospitality as a gracious hostess, an
accomplished cook and an expert in many arts and crafts.
She is survived by two sons, Robert (Shirley) Kelsven,
Casa Grande, AZ, and Morris (Pat) Kelsven, Moorhead, MN;
and a son-in-law Ernest Verde, Thorold, Ontario, in whose
care she was at the time of her death; a brother, Sigurd
(Cora Mae) Ohme, Sioux Falls, SD; 1 niece, 15
grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 8
great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral service: Tuesday, August 29th, 2006, at 2 p.m.
Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND
