Bryant A. Lekander

July 17, 1929 — September 14, 2005

Bryant Alexander Lekander, the son of Alrick and Hilma (Beckman) Lekander, was born July 17, 1929, at Toivola, MN. He grew up in the Hibbing, MN, area, Deer River, MN, and in Detroit Michigan.

Bryant served his country in the US Navy for more than twenty years. He served during WW II, the Korean Conflict, and in the early days of the Vietnam Conflict. Bryant was in the Seabees and served all over the world including in Antarctica.

On Feb. 18, 1959, Bryant married Genevieve Clark, in Fallon, Nevada. In 1963, the Navy placed Bryant as a recruiter in Jamestown, ND. In 1966, the family moved to Moorhead, MN. Bryant retired from the US Navy in 1967 as a Senior Chief.

Bryant attended Minnesota State University, Moorhead, where he received both his bachelor's and master's degrees. He taught school in Moorhead, in both the junior and senior high schools.

The family moved to Italy, where Bryant taught in a department of defense school for ten years. In August of 1995, Bryant retired from teaching and the couple returned to Moorhead.

Bryant died on Wednesday, September 14, 2005, at ManorCare Health Services in Fargo, ND, at the age of 76.

He is survived by his wife, Genevieve, Moorhead; three sons, Randall (Becky) Lekander, Stillwater, MN, David (Shawn) Lekander, Evans, Colorado, and James Lekander, Branson, MO; five grandchildren, Lindsay and Alex Lekander, Jessica (Michael) Linnertz, Bry
