Burton A. Madson

April 21, 1920 — January 4, 2011

Burton A. Madson was born April 21, 1920, to Elvin and Louise (Mathison) Madson, on the family farm near Argusville, ND. Burton was a life-long member at Nora Lutheran Church of rural Gardner, ND. Burton was raised in Wiser Township and went to school at Pleasant Valley School. He also attended Gardner High School.


Burton was a veteran of WWII. He was inducted into the US Army November 21, 1941, and was discharged September 25, 1945. His tour of duty included serving in England, North Africa and Italy. He had been a member of Gilbert C. Grafton Post # 2 American Legion, in Fargo, ND, since 1952.


Burton was united in marriage to Helen Lakeman on December 31, 1951, in Moorhead, MN. They lived and farmed in the Argusville area until he retired in 1986. They moved into Fargo in 1989, and Burton worked part-time at the Select Inn in Fargo, until 2000.


Burton died Tuesday, January 4, 2011, with his loving wife by his side, at ManorCare, Fargo, at ninety years of age.


He is survived by his wife, Helen, Fargo; two daughters, Susan Madson, Denver, CO, and Robin (Jim) Greff, Fergus Falls, MN; two grandchildren, Andrea and Benjamin Kappel, Dickinson, ND; and a brother, Gordon (Audrey) Madson, Duluth, MN.


Burton was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Milton, Earl, Leslie and John Madson; and one grandson, Robert Kappel.


There will be a Gathering of Friends Friday, January 7, 2011, from 4 - 6 PM, with a Prayer Service at 6 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
A Memorial Service will be Saturday, January 8, 2011, at 2 PM, in Nora Lutheran Church, rural Gardner.
Burial will be in the Spring in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
