Burton T. Sorenson

Burton T. Sorenson, 71, Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, December 18, 2007, in Innovis Hospital, Fargo.

Burton "Burt" Theodore Sorenson was born on April 6, 1936, in Ada, MN, to Hans and Gladys (Grondahl) Sorenson. He grew up in Ada and graduated from Ada High School. Burt entered the US Army and upon his discharge in 1963, he returned to the area. He then attended North Dakota State University, graduating with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering.

On July 29, 1961, Burt married Viola Nelson in Shelly, MN, and they made their home in Denver, CO, where Burt worked for the Bureau of Reclamation. They then moved to Grand Forks, ND, Moorhead, and Nebraska, before settling in Fargo in 1970. Burt worked for the VA Medical Center, Fargo, as their chief engineer until retiring in June of 1994.

Burt enjoyed helping his family as he was a good mechanic and could fix anything. He was generous to family and friends with his time. He was past president of his condo association and a former member of the Eagles. He liked to walk, play cards and watch football. He also enjoyed spending time at their lake cabin on Lake Cormorant.

Burt is lovingly survived by his wife, Viola; a son, Greg (Debbie) Sorenson, Muskogee, OK; a daughter, Lori (Kevin) Wheelright, Perham, MN; four grandchildren, Amelia Sorenson, and Kodey, Whitney, and Kiara Wheelright; siblings, Sanford (Eileen) Sorenson, Helen (Virgil) Stenberg, Jerry (Sharon) Sorenson, and Margaret (Jerry) Huebner; and two sisters-in-law, Cammie Sorenson and Shirley Sorenson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Allen and Edwin.


Visitation: Friday from 6 - 8 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:30 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.


Funeral Service: Saturday, December 22, 2007, at 11 AM, in Hope Lutheran Church, South Campus, Fargo.


Burial: Petri Cemetery, Ada.
