Carl was born on June 14, 1928, in rural Ellsworth, WI. His father Charles Christensen was a Danish immigrant who built the farm Carl grew up on from the ground up. He went to school at a rural schoolhouse a few miles away, and reached the eighth grade. Carl had one sister, Anna, and three brothers, Merl, Lawrence, and Charles. Carl took on the responsibility of running the family farm and cared for his mother, Stella.
Carl married Ruth Renner on October 18, 1968, at Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls, WI. Glenn, his only son, was born on January 11, 1971, in Red Wing, MN. Carl was an avid bowler and had many friends and relatives in the River Falls area. They lived on the farm until 1972, when they moved to Aldrich, MN.
As a family they lived on the farm in Aldrich, MN until 1976, when they decided to give up farming. Carl attended Wadena Technical Institute and received a diploma in the Partsman program in 1976. That same year they moved to a new home in Dilworth, MN. During his years in Dilworth he worked at Balmer Motors, Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN, and North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND.
Carl retired from North Dakota State University after a lengthy period of service. During his tenure, he was one of the original members of the Staff Senate, and received several awards for years of service. His retirement years grew darker as time went on due to the onset of dementia. Carl was an outstanding husband and father, and will greatly be missed by all who knew him. Carl will mostly be remembered for his smile, his outstanding character, and his dedication to family. Carl died Sunday, May 13, 2007, in Viking Manor, Ulen, MN, at seventy-eight years of age.
Carl is survived by his wife, Ruth, Ulen; a son, Glenn, Fargo; and a brother, Charles (Marie) Christensen, Spring Valley, WI. He was preceded in death by his sister, Anna; and two brothers, Merl and Lawrence.
Visitation for Carl will be Wednesday, May 16th, from 2 - 5 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
His funeral will be Thursday, May 17th, at 10 AM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel.
Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
