Carl E. Koste, 75, Perley, MN, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fargo, ND, after a battle with cancer.
Carl was born July 7, 1940, in Duluth, MN, to Carl A. and Mary (Kampsula) Koste. He grew up in New York Mills, MN, where he graduated from high school in 1958. In 1957, Carl married his lifelong love, Judith "Judy" Mattson.
He attended Dakota Business College, Fargo, before joining the US Army in 1959, and he served until 1961. Carl worked at Lund Boatworks, New York Mills, before moving to Perley in 1966, to take the assistant manager position at the Perley Coop Elevator. He retired in 1995 and continued to make his home in Perley.
Carl loved to fish, especially with his grandkids. He always said he was using his "secret fishing weapons" to catch the first fish and the largest fish (walleyes.)
He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Judy, Perley; sons, David, Joel, Timothy (Tammy), and Carl (Jennifer Ohnstad), all of Perley; daughter, Sherri Crompton (Rick Barton), Moorhead; twelve grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Yvonne Johnson; and brothers, Kenneth Niemela and Larry Koste.
Visitation will begin at 1 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2 PM, Friday, April 15, 2016, at Kirkebo Lutheran Church, Perley, MN.
