Jerry Nygard, 70, passed away December 17, 2008, from natural causes while on a Polynesian Cruise in the South Pacific with his wife, Eunice, and son, CDR Greg Nygard, USN.
Carl Gerald "Jerry" Nygard was born to Karl E. and Helen E. (Koski) Nygard in Detroit Lakes, MN, on June 14, 1938. He was raised to adulthood in the Strawberry Lake Community north of Detroit Lakes. Jerry graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1956 and then joined the United States Air Force achieving the rank of Master Sgt. He retired from the Air Force in 1978.
Jerry married Madelyn Joann Dick in Mount Hope, KS, on December 11, 1958. Three children were born to them; Kathy, Dale and Greg.
After retiring from the Air Force, Jerry returned to Minnesota and settled in Dilworth, MN. He worked at Channel 11, Northern School Supply and then started working at Minnesota State University Moorhead in 1980 as an electronic technician with the AV/TV Center. In 1985, he transferred to the Computer Center (later renamed Information Technology).
On September 2, 1988, Jerry married Eunice Mae Wold Carlson in Moorhead where they made their home until Jerry's retirement from MSUM in 2003. Following retirement they lived in Hawaii and Virginia and traveled extensively enjoying life to the fullest.

A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2009, at 2 PM, in the Comstock Memorial Union Ballroom on the campus of Minnesota State University Moorhead.
The inurnment will take place on Friday, February 27, 2009, at 11:30 AM in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
