Carl T. Carlson

Carl T. Carlson, 81, of Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014, in Bethany on University in Fargo, with his wife at his side.

Carl, the only child of Camuel and Elisa (Olson) Carlson, was born March 29, 1932, in Minneapolis, MN. The family moved to Souris, ND, where Carl graduated from high school. Carl graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, in 1954. Following his graduation, he served his country in the US Army. After his discharge, he returned to Souris, where he taught school. In the late 1950s, Carl moved to Moorhead, where he taught math in the junior high school.
In 1962, Carl married Diane Sands. They made their home in Moorhead. Carl received his master's degree from Boston College in 1965, after which, he joined the faculty of Moorhead State University, where he faithfully served until retiring in 1999. He also served as president of the MSUM faculty Union.

In 1990, Carl married Carol Gaede. She died in 1995.
On March 22, 2010, Carl was united in marriage to Elizabeth Rost Urban. They made their home in Fargo. In 2013, Carl became a resident of Bethany on University in Fargo.

Carl is lovingly survived by his wife, Elizabeth Rost Urban, Fargo; daughters, Kristen (Peter) Ersland, Littleton, MA, and Lisa (Penny Martindale) Carlson, Olympia, WA; stepdaughters, Dinah Urban, Lakeville, MN, Marcia Urban, Minneapolis, and Lisa (Craig) Ritzinger, Eden Prairie, MN; grandchildren, Ryan and Scott Ersland; and stepgrandchildren, Tom and Ben Valandra and Henry and George Ritzinger.

Carl had a kind and caring nature. He loved music and both played the trombone and sang in the FM Opera chorus for a number of years. Over his long life, he enjoyed traveling, photography, and gardening. He became a wine connoisseur and was an excellent cook.

Memorials preferred to the Struthers Parkinson's Center, 7601 Country Club Drive, Golden Valley, MN.
