Carl W. Roder

Carl William Roder, 81, Moorhead MN, died peacefully on Sunday, January 1, 2017, at Eventide in Fargo, ND.

Carl was born December 28, 1935, to Herman and Dealia (Breakey) Roder in Chester, SD. He grew up in the Pingree, ND, area and graduated from Pingree High School. After high school, he attended Jamestown (ND) College.

He met the love of his life, Delores Lena Langfeldt, when he was a patient in St. John's Hospital. It was a whirlwind romance; they met in March, got engaged in April, and married on May 28, 1960. It was not long until they had four children to raise in their home in Moorhead. In 1993, Carl retired from his long time employment with the City of Moorhead.

Carl and Delores were committed to keeping the family story alive through their creative family reunions. They traveled hundreds of miles to study the family genealogy. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. Carl was an avid gardener who loved to share his rhubarb and vegetables with family, neighbors, and nearby shelters.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delores; four brothers; and two sisters.

He is survived by four children, Jennifer McLain, and her husband, Mark, of Fort Collins, CO, William "Bill" Roder, and his wife, Tami, of Moorhead, Robert "Bob" Roder, and his wife, Sherie, of Excelsior Springs, MO, and Julie Roder, of Moorhead; three sisters, Ida, Rita, and Ramona; four grandchildren, Michael and Sara McLain, and Carlos and Javier Roder; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be Friday, January 6, 2017, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

His funeral will be Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 11 AM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel.

Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
